About Darkland Agency

Completely self taught, I am an amateur photographer who started experimenting with cameras 9 years ago. After trying the Pentax K200D and K20D in 2008, I fell permanently in love with the Pentax brand and their thoughtful approach to photography. Since then, I work exclusively with Pentax DSLRs. However, I believe that the basics of photography do not lie in the sophistication of the equipment, but in the eye of the photographer.

My photos have evolved over the past nine years. After allowing my artistic side out of abeyancy, I tried a few different styles and genres of photography. Over time, I developed a preference for Landscape and Still (macro) photography. Thereby I prefer the look of black and white over colour and natural light and locations over the studio. But most of all, I enjoy shooting a picture which encourages the viewer to look at it differently.

While some photographers might shy away from the difficulties of shooting outdoors, I embrace this challenge. It forces you to make the best of the given circumstances.

If you would like to contact me, you are welcome to do so.

Into the open

The next pages contain some examples of my photos and my thoughts on them.

Into the green wide open

Into the green wide open.  The sun had been struggling with the clouds all morning, and there had been some brief showers; but suddenly at noon the sun broke forth and divided the pasture in two. And the cow, well, she couldn't care less.

Rusty Armillary Sundial

The Rusty Armillary Sundial.  When I wandered through an abandoned garden, I came across this rusty sundail. I really like how the bukeh effect of the surrounding weed turns out in the picture. It's interesting to know that the Japanese have an artform that appreciates aged, impermanent and imperfect things. It's called Wabi Sabi.

Black & White

Black & White  Some argue that black and white are no colors. If black & white are indeed no colors, how come they can turn each other into grey?
